Facelift Surgery

What is Facelift Surgery

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, restores a youthful appearance by addressing wrinkles and sagging skin caused by aging, sun damage, and genetics. Over time, collagen breakdown leads to visible changes like lines under the eyes, nasolabial folds, and loose skin along the chin, jawline, and neck.

Facelift surgery tightens facial and neck muscles, removes excess skin, and enhances overall contour. This procedure not only rejuvenates the face but also dramatically improves the neck’s profile, helping patients look 5 to 10 years younger.

Procedure:

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is often combined with procedures like blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), forehead lifts, chin augmentation, or liposuction to achieve comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Since the effects of gravity persist, repeat facelifts can be performed over time.

Facial rejuvenation surgeries are typically conducted in surgical centers, with general anesthesia rarely needed but available for longer procedures to ensure comfort. During the surgery, Dr. Mohan Thomas creates incisions discreetly along the hairline at the temples, extending in front of and around the ear, then behind the earlobe to the scalp. Excess skin is carefully removed, and underlying muscles and connective tissues are tightened. Fat deposits under the chin and neck may also be addressed for a refined contour.

The procedure usually takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity and any additional treatments performed. Incisions are meticulously closed with fine sutures for optimal healing.
